Meal Prep 101: 5 Meal Prep Hacks for Busy-Bees

Does any of the above sound like you? These are the most common excuses when it comes to eating at home or cooking your own food, especially if you are a #girlboss hustling to build your empire! I get that - ain’t nobody got time to cook all day errrday! Even yours truly don't cook everyday and I enjoy cooking.

No, contrary to what you think, you do not need to be a Master Chef to whip up delicious healthy meals nor do you need to spend hours in the kitchen cooking. Again, ain't nobody got time for that. You just need to be smart about it, cook once and eat multiple meals. Let me share my top 5 hacks and tips with you on how to get on top of your meal prep game just in time for SPRING!!

By no means am I a professional cooK, I am simply a self proclaimed #mealprepninja whom figured out a way to make cooking works around my busy schedule! If I can do it whilst juggling between a full time job and side business, so can you!


5 Meal Prep Hacks for Busy-Bees

Plan, plan and plan.

Planning is the key to meal prep.

Identify the number of meals you required to prepare for the week (Eg: 5 days for breakfast, 4 days for lunch and 4 days for dinner), decide on what cuisine you feel like for the week (Italian, Mediterranean, Indian, etc...) research for recipes (I usually go for something quick and easy) and make a shopping list.

Hit the shops.

Shop in bulk and buy all the ingredients you need for the week. This saves you time and money and having all the ingredients ready when you are cooking makes life a whole lot simpler.

(as opposed to Sh#t, I forgot about the coconut milk for curry, need to hit the shops now, ah F#ck this, I am just gonna buy food for the week…. See where I am going with this?)

Cook smart.

Start with the dish that takes the longest (such as rice or sweet potatoes) and move on to the ones that cook the quickest (usually veggies).

Waiting for your sweet potatoes in the oven and chicken stew to be ready? Chop up all your veggies and fruits or use this time to make your breakfast and/or snacks instead. If you're simply a ninja and got them all under control? Well, start washing up now! You will have a clean kitchen top by the time your roast potatoes and chicken are ready!

Portion, pack and freeze.

If you are a busy lady (or man) that’s always on-the-go, do not skip this step! Weigh (you don't have to weigh if you are not tracking your macros) and divide all your food into individual portions so you can just grab and go during the week. Easy peasy. Invest in good tupperware, my personal favourite is Pyrex. For food that you aren't consuming within the next couple of days, freeze them.

There seem to be this perceived idea that cooking is hard; tasty food is difficult to make! It’s actually a whole lot easier than you think - get rid of those mental block right now!
